Preparing for 2010 The European Year Against Poverty and Social Exclusion - 'Anti Poverty Fair' June 9 - 10 Aintree Racecourse, Liverpool

Hosted in partnership by TSEN and Merseyside Network for Europe, the event was the second of the series to be hosted by TSEN in partnership with its regional members in preparation for the start of European Year Activities March / April 2010

Attended by over 60 third sector practitioners and policy makers from Merseyside and the rest of the North West, the event publicised EY2010 and explored ways the European Social fund could be used to tackle poverty.

Held at the infamous Aintree Racecourse, home of Grand National, the event was held over two days comprising of exhibitions, speeches, and best practice workshops. The exhibition included third sector European Social fund projects working in the field of anti poverty and social inclusion.

One such project was Merseyside Expanding Horizons, awarded ESF under the Innovation Transnationality and Mainstreaming strand. The active inclusion project 'Working Better' supports the goals of the Merseyside City Employment Strategy.

The event enjoyed presentations from Sandra Turner (TSEN, Director) on partnership working, Ray Phillips (LVSTC, Director) on the London approach to EY2010, Emma Jones (Office of the Third Sector, Policy manager) on the role of the Office of the Third Sector in tackling poverty.

Workshops considered a range of issues relevant to poverty and the ESF. For example, one workshop considered how equality of opportunity is positively targeted through ESF funded activitity.
