County Durham Community Foundation is offering £12,000 to groups undertaking activities including help with basic skills, work experience, training advice and guidance, job search assistance, confidence building, personal development and support to overcome barriers to training and employment. Community Grants - South West
The Learning Curve in partnership with the South West Foundation and the Skills Funding Agency is soon to open a new round of Community Grants Funding. Community Grants - East of England second round opens November Grants of 12k are available for voluntary sector organisations providing employment services to the following target groups: People with disabilities and health conditions; Lone parents; People aged 50 or over; People from ethnic minorities. 10% of the grant is available for capacity building activities such as support to achieve quality marks. Employment of persons with Autism Spectrum Disorders
A small number of grants up to 350, 000 EURO are available (80% of project costs) for settings in the open labour market that can help develop policies for employment and social integration of people with ASD. See the call for proposals for more information. Closes August 19
Network of European Foundations - EFID Awards closes August 31
10 awards of up to €10,000 are available for community activities which support people with dementia and their families. The amount granted through the award should aim to improve a current project run by a community based organisation. See the EFID website for more information.
GSK's Impact Awards closes September 23
Organisations must be at least three years old, working in a health-related field in the UK with income between £10,000 and £1.5 million. Up to 15 awards will be made ranging from £3,000 to £35,000 plus free training valued at £4,000. See the GSK website for more information.
Big Lottery -Villiage SOS £5m for rural organisations closes October 6
£5m for rural organisations. Organisations can apply for grants worth between £10,000 and £30,000 for projects that will support new community enterprises that will make a lasting difference in rural communities with a population of less than 3,000. See the Village SOS website.
Department of Health - Innovation across Health & Social Care
closes October 21 - Grants (for 2010-2011 awards ranged between £14,000 to £173,356) are available for voluntary sector organisations to innovate; share best practice or promote partnership according to one of four themes: Personalisation and Choice of Care and Support; Delivering Better Health and Care Outcomes; Improving Public Health; Improving Long-Term Care and Support. Hilden Charitable Fund is accepting applications at any time. It makes grants to projects that address disadvantages and in particular wants to support projects that address homelessness; asylum seekers and refugees; community based initiatives for disadvantaged young people; and penal affairs. Free Learn Direct Course on Winning Public Sector Contracts
This free online course reflects current government policy aimed at making the procurement process transparent and easier to access by businesses, and in particular small businesses. It's hosted by learndirect on behalf of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills with input from Cabinet Office, the Federation for Small Businesses, and the National Council for Voluntary Organisations. Skills Funding Agency Prime Contractors - sub-contracting opportunities? JHP Group, awarded almost £15.5 million in ESF alone are seeking expressions of interest for delivery of their existing contracts. See the JHP website for more information.
ACTOR now closed until September 1 2011 - The Skills Funding Agency will take the time to assess the ACTOR and communication process, refining and simplifying where possible. Any procurement introduced between July 15 and September 1 will automatically include organisations registered with ACTOR before July 15. The new Approved College and Training Organisation Register (ACTOR) replaced the current Qualified Provider Framework (QPF). ACTOR will be used as the procurement channel for all core Skills Funding Agency provisions, including ESF co-financed programmes. As part of ACTOR registration, providers must complete generic ItTs. The Skills Funding Agency will devise a methodology, using scores in the ACTOR process to award contracts to eligible organisations.
In order to access ACTOR you must register on the Skills Funding Agency Bravo online procurement system:
- When registered you will receive an e-mail - return to the Skills Funding Agency Bravo Solution Home Page and login (right hand side of page)
- Go to 'PQQs Open to All Suppliers' (bottom of page)
- Click on the 'Actor due dilligence questionnaire', then click on 'Express Interest' (top of page)
- Click on 'buyer attachment' and then download the 'ACTOR OPs Manual'
- The OPs manual will give you more information about registering on ACTOR

Big Lottery Fund - Improving Financial Confidence. Closes Sept 16
Grants between £500k - £1 million available to help people overcome financial exclusion by increasing their confidence and skills needed to choose, access and use financial products and services suitable to an individual’s needs. EU Integration fund - The UK Border Agency administers 258 million Euro for the 2007 - 2013 period to finance activities which support the integration of migrants from outside of the EU (such as ESOL).
