Overview - Wendy Violentano Head of European Social Fund Division
Wendy
Violentano (Head of ESF Division, DWP) stated how vital the Third Sector
is in improving the chances of disadvantaged people to access employment.
According to Wendy, there are a total of 750 ESF projects at present,
30% of which are delivered by Third Sector Organisations.
The ESFD (managing
authority of the ESF programme in England) are providing the National
Implementing Body (DWP) for the European Year 2010 with expertise. In
the Q&A session, Wendy pointed out that the European Social Fund
Regional Strategic Frameworks are valid for 2007-2010 (i.e. the first
half of the structural fund programme). There is therefore potential
for the third sector to influence Strategic frameworks for 2011-2013
with a focus on addressing poverty.
